July 24

Tree fire: 10:36 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters hustling to reports of a tree on fire found a branch that had fallen onto a power line. Firefighters called the energy provider, and while they were awaiting its arrival, Engine 332 monitored the arcing and sparking to ensure the fire did not spread. When the energy provider arrived, it shut off the power and trimmed the tree back from the power lines.

July 25

Bicycle vs. car: 2:13 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters and medics evaluated an injured bicyclist who’d been traveling approximately 20 mph on an electric-powered bike when he struck the side of a vehicle that was entering the roadway from a driveway. A private ambulance transported the injured party to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center.

July 26

Accident investigation: 8:02 a.m. (Algona). Firefighters treated a woman who’d suffered an injury to an extremity during a motor vehicle accident, and a personal vehicle transported her to MultiCare Auburn.

July 27

Grass fire: 10:59 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responding to a report of a grass fire near the railroad tracks found a 15 x 150 foot area that had burned, leaving just a small remnant of remaining fire, which they extinguished.

July 28

Brush fire: 11:30 a.m. (SR 18). Firefighters were dispatched to a smoke investigation near State Route 18. Upon arrival, firefighters found a 30-x-50-foot brush fire burning in a homeless encampment between SR 18 and the railroad tracks. The fire was quickly contained and extinguished by multiple VRFA crews. Afterward, the area was thoroughly overhauled with hand tools and copious amounts of water.

July 29

Aid call: 9:37 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters stabilized a woman in her 60s who was struggling to breathe, then helped King County paramedics. A private ambulance transported the woman to Good Samaritan Hospital for further treatment and evaluation.

July 30

Residential fire: 5:48 p.m. (Lea Hill). Firefighters responded as mutual aid to Kent for a residential garage fire. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fully involved garage fire with no injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
