Morecambe woman appeals after 'lifeline' electric wheelchair stolen from outside home

A disabled woman from Morecambe has appealed for the return of her 'lifeline' electric wheelchair after it was stolen from outside her home.

Jean Grey said the theft has left her struggling to get out and about due to mobility issues and a heart condition.

"It's my lifeline," said Jean.

"I don't think I'll see it again. I've lost my confidence. It makes life so much easier."

Jean used the electric wheelchair to get out to volunteer at the International Aid Trust shop in Carnforth, and to attend classes at More Music, and the West End Players theatre group.

She said she will find it very hard to do this without the wheelchair.

Her friend Rebecca said: "She can't access the community without it.

"Jean is so upset she can't even do her charity shop volunteering this week or go to her music session or even bingo."

The wheelchair was locked up outside her home on Regent Road in the West End of Morecambe when it was taken on Monday August 21 some time between 12.30pm and 3pm.

A police spokesperson said the theft had been reported and looked into but had been "filed as there are no further lines of enquiry".
